Paws.io
Smart collar app for connecting pets and their owners
kick-off
A smart collar mobile app
With the rise of proactive medicine, IoT products, and pet owners spending more on premium accessories, the pet tech market is experiencing rapid growth. Paws.io is a technology that reveals new opportunities for caring for pets and engaging with them. It is a self-practice project.
The problem
- Pet owners are limited in their ability to understand their pets and communicate with them, especially when they suspect their pets are sick.
- Pet owners always fear losing their pets, and thus, they limit their pets' freedom.
The challenge
Maximize the benefits that pet owners can get from the collar and ensure that it constantly adds value to its users by:
- Utilizing the technology’s potential
- Taking advantage of possible synergies

market research insights
1.
Two types of apps were identified:
- Location-centric
- Health-centric
2.
For the Israeli market, health-centric apps are a better match. Location-centric apps better serve customers from the suburbs and rural areas.
3.
3rd-party integrations could be implemented to enhance differentiation and to be used as a basis for a few monetization models - They’re still not common among competitors though sound promising due to recent market trends.
personas
I focused on the urban pet owner and divided it into 2 more specific personas:
Busy Pet Owner
Motivation
- Wants to ensure the health and well-being of her pet.
Frustration
- Limited time dedicated to pet care and health monitoring.
- Feels guilty for not giving her pet enough attention.
- Struggles to find reliable and convenient solutions to manage her pet's health.
Dedicated Pet Owner
Motivation
- Devote a considerable amount of time and attention to ensuring his pet's health and well-being.
- Enjoys exploring new ways to enhance his pet's quality of life.
Frustration
- Limited availability of comprehensive tools for managing pet health.
- Desires a solution that goes beyond basic care and offers insights into his pet's overall wellness.
the solution
The app should answer the following needs:
Knowing that everything is OK with the pet, even when its owner is away
Improving the pets' health and life quality
A better understanding of the pet
Help dealing with a lost pet or medical emergencies
Optional: managing and keeping track of all the pet-related bureaucracy

Planning the System
To understand the user journey through the first-use flow before they start using the app, I created this storyboard.

With traffic-light colors and turquoise, a relaxing and health-associated color, I chose a young, slightly bold design.
